Other guys grab a cup of coffee first thing each morning. Ed Cherubino grabs a headset and begins flipping from radio, to television, to the internet–catching up on what’s happened overnight. On the way out the door, he packs newspapers to read during his commute on the T.
96.9, WTKK’s News Director and afternoon news anchor has been with the station since it’s inception. He’s worked almost every “on-air" job in radio, but he loves doing news. “Even during my years hosting music shows, I’d follow what was happening in the newsroom. Keeping my listeners up-to-date and in-touch seemed a natural and important thing to do.”
He finds working in the newsroom, “...exciting, challenging, and sometimes heartbreaking.” Ed thinks about the people who are listening to his news reports. “I want to tell them what’s happening at that moment – whether it’s a totally new story or an update on a familiar one.”
Ed is deeply connected to this area. He was raised in Westwood, MA and has been part of the Boston radio scene for nearly 20 years. He loves living in Boston with his wife Penny and their Westie, Maggie.
For Ed a great day would include a walk with Maggie in the Public Garden, a run along the Esplanade, dinner in one the city’s great restaurants, and maybe a glass of wine with live music at one of the area’s jazz clubs.
